Playstation 4 or Xbox One?
This is a decision that many households are going to be making over the next few weeks. The Playstation 4 has the slightly better specs and has become the more popular console but Xbox One sales have been growing and will catch up. Really no matter which you end up getting you will be happy but here a few points to consider that might sway you one way or the other.
Do you have a console already either Playstation 3 or Xbox 360? If you do you’ll probably want to stick with what you know and go with the newer version. The Xbox One offers compatibility with Xbox 360 games while Sony have decided to offer a subscription service to play older Playstation games.
Which console did your friends get or which one are they getting? Since there’s no cross platform multiplayer if you plan to play online with your friends you’ll need to have the same console as them.
Both consoles have their exclusive games that are only available for them. Both will get the big titles but if you’re a fan of the Forza series you’ll need the Xbox One while Gran Turismo is Playstation only and so on. Have a look through the coming titles for 2016 and see if there’s a game there that will sway you either way.
Both consoles will be on offers over the next few weeks at similar prices but I don’t think there’ll be an offer much cheaper than the current bundle of around €349. If you’re not in a rush to get it before Christmas I would suggest to wait and see what the New Year brings as both consoles are due to get a hardware upgrade and so current models will get a price drop.
Which console would I get? I’m a Microsoft fan and would go for the Xbox One purely for how it would fit into my home network and it’s game lineup for next year but for anyone looking to get a first console this Christmas I’d suggest the Playstation 4 since it’s the more popular of the 2 and chances are it’s the one that your friends will have.
Tip: Both consoles are HDMI only so check to make sure your TV has a spare connection to avoid hassle on Christmas morning
